The West Virginia Highland Dancers

Overview

The WV Highland Dancers is a performance and competition group made up of over 30 members ranging in age from four to adult. The group enjoys traveling their state to perform and share their love of this unique art form.

About Performances

A typical performance consists of a half hour of traditional Highland dance, live bagpipe music, and the history of the dances explained. Dances included in most performances are: the Highland Fling, the Sword Dance, Sean Truibhas, the Scottish Lilt, Flora MacDonald's Fancy, Strathspey and Highland Reel, Sailor's Hornpipe, Irish Washerwoman Jig, Blue Bonnets Over the Border, the Earl of Erroll, Reel of Tulloch, and Tribute to J.L. MacKenzie. More modern choreographies can be performed if a stereo and sound system are available.

About Classes

Classes are held in Elkins on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays with most classes meeting once a week for an hour. Classes meet all year round and do not take a summer break. New classes usually begin in May.
